The high price of freedom from intellectualism in Christianity

As a person of faith, I feel that anti-intellectualism has taken root in the Christian church in the western world, in particular North America. Thanks to the excesses of the modern charismatic movement and the slow but sure transformation of making evangelical Christianity another branch of fundamentalism. It is becoming more frustrating for those who believe but at the same time don't want to leave their minds at the door. Those who attack intellectual belivers say, "That's religion the wonderful mystery. It DOESN'T NEED TO MAKE SENSE!!!!" Well a friend at my fellowship protested, "It has to make sense." He is right. Let us not forget the Jonestown massacre in 1978. There is a point that there has to be a sometimes clause of religion making sense. Oh yes, intellectual believers can be theological Jessica Simpsons (smart on the inside but play dumb) but that can only go so far. Here is a few trends that the high cost of anti-intellectualism in Christianity and fundamentalism taking root and this is only the tip of the iceberg:

I don't mind kids praying to God but for kids praying like that at a certain age, this is chilling beyond words.

If I had kids 8 to 10 years old, I want them praying nice simple prayers of "getting nice teachers at school" or their "pet dog or cat" but none of this crazed emotionalism.

Wholesome wear! Burn your skimpy satanic bikinis, Vida Guerra it is time you bundle your demonic lust stirring thongs for a good ol' fashioned, ol' time religion, Holy Ghost revival "thong burning" and embrace 19th century Victorian swimwear! It is God's design!http://www.wholesomewear.com/culotte-a.html
To paraphrase that old 50's and 60's TV show on that police automobile Car 54, "Jessica Alba where you?!" http://www.contactmusic.com/new/xmlfeed.nsf/mndwebpages/alba%20turns%20her%20back%20on%20christian%20pals%20who%20made%20her%20feel%20ashamed
Here's another creepy concept, Purity Balls: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/gate/archive/2006/05/12/notes051206.DTL . Girls young as 6 or 7 would participate in this! What's part of deal? No playing doctor with boys at that age too? I can hear the theme of Jurassic Park already.
The Christian church needs to embrace thinkers NOW! Or if you really want it, we will have our own version of the Taliban on this North American continent. The choice is yours!
