Intelligent Quote of the Day

“Humble my intellectual vanity.” Gack! What they mean is, “Don’t study so much, or you’ll end up knowing more than us ministers of God, and will be able to catch us when we’re wrong. Don’t read so much, or you might find out that our religion is a bucketful of coyote offal.”
No, studying and seeking truth, wanting to know hows and whys, wanting to understand, wanting to avoid error—that’s not intellectual vanity. It’s pursuing the proper end to which God has ordered the human mind. Ironically, it’s those who are threatened by education and intelligence, dismissing it as “vanity,” who are really the ones who suffer from intellectual vanity, because they are afraid they’ll be found to be wrong and will have their power and status questioned or undercut.
