More UCG stupidity
Richard Burkard, a United Church of God member is waaay more long suffering than Alice Kramden of the Honeymooners (Gen Yers, I am talking about the '50's TV series---not the 2000's movie!) , I think it's time that Richard not feel guilty about losing his patience with the continual stupidity that still exists in the UCG. What I am I talking about? I will let Richard speak for himself:
You'll be pleased to know the United Church of God declares itself NOT guilty of "legalism." And to prove it, here's a partial list of all the things I've heard my UCG Pastor oppose in recent years:
1. eHarmony.com -- "God doesn't work that way."
2. Roller coasters. They're dangerous, and might tempt God.
3. Poems in sermons/sermonettes. This one was declared out of order just last weekend.
4. Pirate Master, the CBS summer reality series. Its promos promoted lying and stealing so much, it was condemned even before its premiere.
5. Bank of America. The Pastor said a boycott would be in order, after it announced plans to allow immigrants to get bank services without Social Security numbers.
6. Politicians in Armani outfits. He seemed to condemn Nancy Pelosi for wearing Armani on TV, after the November 2006 national election.
7. The city of Atlanta. Because it has not repented of its sins, the Southeast is in a major drought in 2007.
This same Pastor opposed the following things during his years in WCG, and to this point I have not heard them revoked in UCG:
1. The Simpsons. It tears down the family.
2. Children appearing in TV commercials -- for violating the "fires of Molech" principle.
That's all I can think of for the moment -- but I'll add to the list as things come to mind. Here's hoping you heed all these warnings, and walk humbly before God.

More fatuous striving for
destructive perfection.
The minister should have noted that Herbert Armstrong wore an Armani suit and Gucci shoes to boot: He should have condemned Herbert Armstrong publicly as well. It would have been well for this minister to also condemn Herbert Armstrong as a false prophet from the pulpit and mark him as commanded by Scripture while he was at it.
This is just another example of a member of the collective recognizing evil but staunchly sticking with it because the expectation that eventually it will become good.
Not gonna happen: Hasn't happened, isn't happening and not gonna.
It should be noted that as long as a person remains a borg drone in the collective, they will continue soaking up the aggressive pernicious evil. Liars are said to be blocked from the Kingdom of God. What about living a lie? Is that going to get you in? Tacitly accepting utter nonsense week after week? At minimum, it detracts from sanity.
Instead of complaining on a forum about the idiocy, do what I did: Go nose to nose and toe to toe with the minister. Then, when he doesn't hear you, do a cut and slash on the Internet: Expose the stalking and fondling with explicit details so the people are thoroughly marked. If they have a conscience, they will be embarrassed. Since they never are embarrassed, it is a clear sign that we are dealing with psychopaths here -- or at least with people who have a conscience seared with a hot iron.
The longer you stay with these people and do not accept grace, the more likely it is that you will follow their bad example and become an utter fool. To see the nuttiness and do nothing about it but complain to your cat [or post it on the Internet] is to accept the evil.
It should be noted that the aggressive incompetent evil is spreading to other venues as disaffected xcg members join other churches. It has come to our attention that the xcg members have infiltrated such fellowships as the Church of God Seventh Day and the CoG7 congregations are now beginning to break up after decades of stability: A bad example and bad behavior doesn't just stop at the home doorstep.
Armstrongism is absolute evil because of its pursuit of perfection. It keeps getting worse. As it gets worse, it spreads to other venues and makes them go stupid as well.
You may not be able to resist the onslaught, but at least you can leave it.

" The Simpsons. It tears down the family"
The Simpsons exposes the dysfunction of families.
It would be great to have a syndicated cartoon "The xCGs" exposing the dysfunction of Armstrongism.
Having had occasion to talk with CoG7 members who have never been exposed to the utter corruption of the xCGs, it is striking that they are truly innocent and have no conception of accepting the evils of the church of gods. Their idea of "everyone sins" is at worst the Ned Flanders approach of being remorseful when he sees a pretty girl and thinks he might have lusted after her. The morality is divorced from the acceptance of having an administrator in the church having relations with coeds or accepting that the Pastor General has a mistress living on campus in a church provided home while his wife goes crazy living with the woman in her house. Stalking and fondling are galaxies away from the thinking of Christians outside the Armstrongist sphere -- which, well, are there any Christians within it? Could they have lasted this long in all the defiling corruption?

Oh dear -- look what I found. I hope my pastor doesn't. :--0
I'm assuming from these posts that Mr. Becker has left UCG; I've never heard confirmation one way or the other.
But my pastor came to ME with some things I blogged and Gavin posted -- concerned that I didn't go to him with some of these things first. And he didn't even remember the eHarmony comment. (Single guys like I pay attention to such things!)
He wants me to come to him with concerns, and alert him to seemingly humor-blogable comments he makes. Otherwise, he says, people might consider him "that crazy pastor" from "that crazy church."
But as this pastor likes to say from time to time: A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still.
